Turkish Divorce Decree Translation to English for U.S. Immigration and Re-Marriage
Certified English translation of your Turkish divorce decree is required for immigration application
If you got married and divorced in the past, you need to have your divorce decree (divorce decision, divorce paper) translated and certified for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly Immigration and Naturalization Services - INS).
Divorce decrees were issued by courts of first instance in the past. Now, newly established family courts issue divorce decrees.
Contents of divorce decrees
A typical divorce decree contains: name of court, judge, and clerk, plaintiff, defendant, names of legal representatives (attorneys) of parties, addresses of these persons, case title - divorce, date of case, justification for divorce case, summary of contents of petitions and statements of the plaintiff and defendant, and the decision of the judge.
Many people assume that divorce decree is sufficient without final notification. This is wrong. A divorce decree without notation stating that divorce decree become final is not legally complete.
Divorce decree becomes final under following conditions:
- parties (plaintiff, defendant, or their attorneys as legal representatives) do not exercise their rights to appeal and they register the same with the court;
- statutory time for appeal (15 days in most cases) passes and parties do not appeal; and
- parties appeal and court issues a final decision on the matter.
