Mongolian Dialects: Mongolian language was based on Halh dialect. There are seven more dialects.

Mongolian Alphabet: 35 characters plus two characters from the Russian alphabet. Syllabic alphabet: each letter has an inherent vowel. Written vertically from top to bottom, and from left to right as opposed to Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, which are from right to left.

Mongolian Orthography: Each word has three different forms depending on whether it is at the beginning, middle, or end.

Mongolian Language History: Back to the 7th and 8th centuries. First alphabet from Uigur in the 12th century. Chinese and Arabic scripts during the 13th and 16th centuries. Latin alphabet in 1931, Cyrillic in 1937. Mongolian alphabet was abolished in 1941. A loose standard was adapted in 1987. Mongolian alphabet was restored in 1990.

Mongolian Language Enriched by: Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan, and Uigur. Mongolian script does not have a system for adapting foreign words. There are common words with Turkish.
