Marriages in Malaysia are governed by the Civil Marriage Ordinance No. 44 or 1952 and the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 that went into force on March 1, 1982.
Malaysian citizens must fill out Form JPN.KC02 (Application Form, Notice of Marriage and Written Declaration) to get married.

Who issues marriage certificates in Malay language?
- Registrars of marriage issue marriage licenses in Malaysia.
- Assistant registrars in churches are also authorized to conduct marriages. The clergyman, minister, priest or person solemnizing marriage must have duly been appointed Assistant Registrar of Marriages to conduct marriages.
- Chief Minister is authorized for special licenses.
Seven days of advance notice to registrar of marriage is required.
You can obtain certified copy of marriage license from the Malaysian Registrar-General of Marriages, National Registration Department inPetaling Jaya, Selangor. Marriage certificates are subject to Civil Marriage Ordinance 1952 in State of Selangar, Federal Territory.
If your marriage was conducted in the state of Sabah and Sarawakm, then you can obtain certified copy of certificate of marriage from the Superintendent Registrar of Marriages in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak.
Certified copies of Islamic marriage certificates may be obtained from the Mahkamah Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur.
