Flemish language
Flemish: It is a Dutch dialect spoken by Flanders primarily in Belgium.
Number of Flemish Speakers: 23 million worldwide, including 5.5 million in Belgium. Flanders speak Flemish in the northern part of Belgium (by about 55 percent of Belgians), in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Canada, and the United States.
Language Classification: Germanic sub family of Indo-European language family.
Flemish Dialects: Flemish is considered a Dutch dialect by itself.

Flemish Language History: History of Flemish goes back to the 13th century. Country was occupied by a number of countries that affected the language. It stayed distinct after Belgium gained its independence in 1830.

Unique Features of Flemish: The old Dutch language goes back to the 11th century. Flemish people have been accused of their collaboration with the Nazis who tried to divide Flanders by using the language.
