Two types of child adoption
Open adoption is effective in six states in the United States. Open adoption is informal arrangement and can be terminated by adoptive parent(s). Adoptive parent (adoptee) may allow biological parent(s) to visit and exchange information.
Closed adoption allows strict confidentiality and secrecy regarding adoption information. This is why adoptive parents prefer closed adoption over open adoption. Biological parents are not allowed to disclose information and data.

In order to protect children against exploitation and abuse, Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption was accepted by over 70 countries in 1995.
In many Islamic countries adoption is prohibited by Sharia (Muslim) law.
